For the profession

Offices, hours and new clients

Many lawyers practise from more than one place, on different days. Your profile can show each office, the hours you're usually there, how clients can reach the door, and whether you're taking on new matters.

The short version

One profile, many offices

List each place you practise from. Your primary office decides where you appear in the directory.

Hours at a glance

Weekly hours show on a calendar, in person or by phone or online, linked to an office.

Say if you're taking clients

An optional status tells visitors whether you're accepting new enquiries. Reconfirm it every 90 days.

Offices tab

Listing your offices

Add up to ten offices, each with a name such as "Kandy chambers", a district, and optionally a city, address, map pin and its own contact details.

Your primary office

Your first office becomes your primary office; use Make primary to choose another. Its address, district, city and map pin become your profile's location, which places you in directory search and on district pages.

Public or private

A private office stays off your public profile entirely, while you can still link hours to it. Your primary office must be public.

Office contact details

Each office can have its own telephone, mobile, WhatsApp, fax and email, with the same Show publicly choices as your profile. Your profile's own contact details stay on your contact card and apply to every office.

Review

Adding, changing or removing a public office, or making a private office public, returns your profile to review. Changes to private offices don't.

Access and arrival

Helping clients reach you

Each office can answer a few questions for visitors who use a wheelchair, bring a pram or need to park. Every answer starts as Not stated, and visitors see it that way, so a missing answer is never read as yes or no.

Facilities

Four questions

  • Step-free entry: yes or no.
  • Lift access: yes, no, or not needed because the office is on the entrance level.
  • Accessible toilet: yes or no.
  • Parking: on site, nearby or none.

Arrival

How to find you

  • Up to 500 characters of arrival instructions, such as which entrance or floor.
  • Shown in an Access and arrival panel on the office card.
  • Labelled as provided by you. It is not an accessibility certification by The Roll.

Availability tab

Your weekly hours.

Add recurring times, such as Saturday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in person. You can apply one period to several days at once. Your public profile shows a weekly calendar with today marked and whether you're available now.

Hours are indicative and change on your profile straight away, without review.

How

In person, by phone or online, or either

In-person times can name one of your offices, so they also appear on that office's card. Phone and online times aren't tied to an office.

When

Sri Lanka time, in 15-minute steps

Times can't cross midnight, and periods on the same day can touch but not overlap. You can hold up to 28 periods a week.

Notes

A short public note

Add up to 120 characters to a period, such as "By appointment". Please don't mention fees.

New clients

Enquiry status and first consultations

Hours say when clients can reach you, not whether you can take on a new matter. Two optional cards cover that.

New-client enquiry status

Choose accepting enquiries, limited availability or currently unavailable on the Availability tab. Visitors see it with the date you last confirmed it. Use Still accurate to reconfirm, or Not stated to remove it.

Hidden after 90 days

A status you haven't reconfirmed for 90 days is hidden from visitors until you confirm it again, so it never claims availability that may have changed.

First consultation

On the Profile tab, say whether first consultations are by appointment, walk-in or either, how long one usually takes, how to arrange one and which documents to bring, one per line.

No fees

The Roll doesn't publish fees, and the card tells visitors to ask you before they meet. Please keep fees out of these fields.

Common questions

Questions people ask

Can clients book appointments through The Roll?

No. The Roll does not book appointments. Your hours and first consultation details tell clients how to arrange one with you directly.

Which district do I appear in if I have several offices?

The district of your primary office. Choose Make primary on another public office to change it; this returns your profile to review.

Do changes to my hours need review?

No. Weekly hours and your new-client status change on your approved profile straight away.

Can I list an office without publishing its address?

Yes. Each office's address and map pin have their own Show publicly choice. Visitors still see the office's name, district and city.
