For the profession
Keeping your profile up to date
People rely on your profile to decide whether to get in touch, so it helps to keep it accurate. This guide explains which edits need our team's review, how to confirm your details, and how someone in your office can help.
The short version
Some edits are reviewed
Changing published details returns your profile to review. Hiding a detail never does.
Confirm once a year
Confirming tells visitors your details are current. After a year without one, the profile says it may be out of date.
Share the work
Delegates such as clerks can edit and confirm your profile, and you can revoke their access at any time.
Editing
Which changes need review
Changes to the details that identify you or that clients use to reach you go back to our team before they are published. While a profile waits for review it isn't shown in the directory, so group your edits together.
Details you describe yourself, and anything you hide, change straight away.
Returns to review
Published details
- Your name, enrollment details, photo, practice areas, services, courts and languages.
- Publishing a contact detail, address or map pin, and your professional website.
- Your first consultation details, links and publications.
- Adding, changing or removing a public office, or changing your primary office.
Changes at once
Things you describe or hide
- Professional experience, and education and qualifications.
- Weekly availability and your new-client enquiry status.
- Hiding a contact detail, address or map pin you had published.
- Private offices, your private contact for The Roll, and reordering lists.
Confirm details
Tell visitors your profile is still right.
Every tab of your profile editor has a panel at the top with a Confirm details button. Your public profile shows the date you last confirmed.
You or your delegates
You and anyone you have made a delegate can confirm. Our team can't confirm on your behalf, because the point is that you have looked.
Any time, even before approval
You can confirm a profile that is pending review or approved. Confirming also reconfirms your new-client enquiry status.
Until something changes, or a year
Changing a published detail resets the confirmation, so confirm again after editing. A confirmation more than a year old is shown as possibly out of date.
Every 90 days
A new-client enquiry status not reconfirmed for 90 days is hidden from your public profile until you confirm it again. Use Still accurate on the Availability tab.
Reminders
When The Roll emails you
A daily check at 9 am Sri Lanka time emails you about approved profiles that need confirming, all in a single email with a link to each one.
Never confirmed, or changed since
We wait 14 days after your last change, so a fresh edit isn't chased straight away.
About to go out of date
Within 30 days of your confirmation, or your new-client status, reaching its limit.
Not too often
At most one reminder a month for each profile, and no more than three until you confirm. Your delegates receive them too.
Turning them off
Switch off Remind me to confirm the lawyer profiles I manage in your account settings. Your choice is private.
Getting help
Letting a clerk manage your profile
You can give other accounts access from your profile's Delegates tab. Only you see that tab.
Give access by email
Your delegate first needs a The Roll account; they can sign up with just an email. Then enter that email on the Delegates tab.
What delegates can do
Edit the profile, offices, background, links and availability, confirm details, and accept or decline positions proposed by firms.
What stays with you
Delegates can't add or remove other delegates, and can't write for the Journal or record contribution interests in your name.
Revoking access
Revoke a delegate on the Delegates tab and their access ends immediately, even on a page they already have open. The record of the grant is kept.
Common questions
Questions people ask
Why did my profile disappear from the directory after I edited it?
Changes to published details, such as your contact numbers, practice areas or offices, return the profile to pending review, and pending profiles aren't shown publicly. It reappears once our team approves the change.
Can I hide my phone number without going back to review?
Yes. Hiding a detail you had published takes effect at once and keeps your profile approved. Publishing a new detail is what needs review.
What does Confirm details do?
It records that you, or your delegate, checked the profile and that it is still accurate. Your public profile shows the date. It does not change anything else or send the profile for review.
How do I stop the reminder emails?
Confirm your details, or turn off Remind me to confirm the lawyer profiles I manage in your account settings.
